Most of us know Phil Anselmo as the frontman of Pantera but over the years he has also been involved in numerous other projects. Often with success and usually as part of a band, such as Superjoint Ritual or Down, but one of those endeavours is a solo project under his own full name with The Illegals as a backing band.
Together Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals have put out two albums so far: ‘Walk through Exits Only’ (2013) and 2018’s ‘Choosing Mental Illness as a Virtue’. While Anselmo wrote the material for their debut on his lonesome, their second full-length was a collaborative effort with doom, death, thrash, grindcore, punk & hardcore influences all rolled into one. The result is a surprisingly homogenous and extremely enjoyable cocktail of the best metal has to offer. This time around though we’re being treated to an exclusive Pantera set that pays tribute to these power groove masters.
