It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Norway’s number one black metallers Dimmu Borgir. Granted, they did release a live DVD/album ‘Forces of the Northern Light’ with a full symphonic orchestra last year, but the upcoming (May) new full-length ‘Eonian’ is their first studio effort in eight years. In interviews they’ve said that in terms of riffing there are links with their older albums and the new disc pays tribute to their black metal roots. The album also revives the collaboration with Norway’s famous Schola Cantorum choir. New members Daray (drums) and Gerlioz (keyboards/synthesizer) didn’t contribute to the songwriting process on the new CD but the surge of adrenaline the new recruits have generated will play a key role as Dimmu Borgir showcase a mix of new and old material.
