What is the Alcatraz Death Ride?

The Alcatraz Death Ride is a 120-metre zipline experience launching from the Safety Jogger Guard Tower and flying over the festival grounds. It’s your chance to escape from Alcatraz like never before.

Where is the Death Ride located?

The ride starts from the Safety Jogger Guard Tower. Tickets are sold at the Death Ride Ticket Booth next to El Hongo, the official festival merchandise store. Check the Alcatraz Festival App for the exact location.

What are the opening hours?

The Death Ride is open on all festival days, including Thursday starting from 4:30 PM (when the festival gates open). On all other days, it is open daily from 4:00 PM until 12:00 AM.

Why did Alcatraz introduce the Death Ride?

No Alcatraz story is complete without an escape attempt. The Death Ride lets you step into that story and make your own spectacular getaway from the Safety Jogger Guard Tower.

The ride is sponsored by Safety Jogger, a leading PPE brand and trusted Alcatraz partner that equips the festival crew with professional safety footwear, workwear and head protection.

Why does the ride start from the Guard Tower?

The Safety Jogger Guard Tower is a replica of the famous watchtowers of Alcatraz Prison in San Francisco. This year, instead of watching prisoners, it becomes the starting point for their escape.

Who is the partner behind the Death Ride?

The Death Ride is presented by Safety Jogger, Alcatraz’s long-standing partner. Every year, Safety Jogger equips the festival crew with high-quality personal protective equipment, helping build the festival safely. This year, the partnership reaches new heights with the introduction of the Death Ride.

Is the Death Ride included in my festival ticket?

No. A separate Death Ride ticket is required.

How much does it cost?

One ride costs 2 Chains.

Chains are Alcatraz’s cashless festival currency you can use to pay drinks, food and other festival activities. Two chains are:

  • €6.80 when purchased in presale
  • €7.20 when purchased at the festival
Can I ride for free?

Yes. You can win a free ride by taking part in the Safety Jogger scavenger hunt in the Alcatraz Festival App.

Can I reserve a time slot or ticket?

No. Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis.

How many people can ride each day?

A maximum of 500 visitors can ride each day. We recommend queueing early.

Are there any participation requirements?

Yes. Riders must:

  • Be at least **7 years old **
  • Weigh no more than **120 kg **
  • Be physically fit to participate

For safety reasons, pregnant visitors and people with heart conditions cannot participate. Riders must also be able to understand and follow all safety instructions. The operator may refuse participation if someone is considered unfit to ride.

Is the Death Ride safe?

Yes. The attraction is operated by trained professionals and complies with all applicable safety standards. Every rider receives a safety briefing and certified safety equipment.

Can I participate if I’m afraid of heights?

That’s entirely your choice. The ride starts nearly 20 metres above the ground, so please consider your comfort level before participating.

How high is the starting platform?

The starting platform is 19.5 metres above the ground.

How long is the Death Ride?

The zipline is approximately 120 metres long.

How long does the experience take?

The ride itself only lasts a few seconds. Please allow extra time for ticket purchase, queueing, equipment fitting and the mandatory safety briefing.

What happens in bad weather?

The Death Ride may be temporarily closed in case of strong winds, thunderstorms or other unsafe weather conditions.
