Together with Liar, Congress were the flagbearers of the H8000 scene. The Belgian hardcore legends formed in 1993 when four totally different characters from wildly different musical backgrounds decided to join forces in a musical splinter bomb that exploded onto the music scene with ‘Euridium’ (1994).
The pronounced influence of thrash-oriented metal spawned a new subgenre known as edge core or edge metal. Following several legendary (split) albums such as ‘Blackened Persistence’ (1995), ‘The Other Cheek’ (1996) and ‘Angry with the Sun’ (1998), they called it quits in 2006. Barring several brief efforts to reboot the band, it seemed as if Congress’s raging days were over but nothing could be further from the truth. They are champing at the bit to show that the intensity and fire burn undiminished.
