Heaven Shall Burn
Alcatraz Line up: 2023
They may have derived their name from the Marduk album ‘Heaven Shall Burn... When We Are Gathered’, musically Heaven Shall Burn have been focussing on a slightly different genre since their formation in 1995. For nine albums the German quintet has been making waves with songs that sounds like a cross between death metal and (mainly) metalcore. In 2006 ‘Deaf to Our Prayers’ stormed the German charts and they also billed higher at the larger festivals. Released between 2007 and 212, the ‘Iconoclast’ trilogy firmly established them as one of the most popular metalcore acts. The band fronted by energy bomb Marcus Bischoff also see a social role for themselves. Within the context of the ‘Support Your Local Team’ campaign, traditional football club FC Carl Zeis Jena played with the band’s name printed across the front of their jerseys. Musically they are known for their hard-hitting, energetic live shows and the use of pyrotechnics and breathtaking visuals. This is also a chance to hear cuts off their recent double album ‘Of Truth & Sacrifice’ (2020) live for the first time.
