Today Alcatraz is a wide-ranging event with a varied range of hard rock and metal styles but we’ve always worn our thrash-loving roots on our sleeve.
Take thrash metallers Sacrifice: founded in 1983 by guitarists Rob Urbinati and Joe Rico, they played a prominent role on the Canadian metal scene in the latter half of the eighties. Together with Voivod, Razor and Annihilator they formed the Big Four of Canadian thrash. Despite four critically acclaimed albums they went defunct in 1993. In 2006 a one-off reunion concert kick-started a new chapter in their career but they were hardly regulars on our side of the Atlantic. At long last they have new material coming out in 2024 and they can’t wait to unleash the new stuff live together with a crushing selection of their earlier hits.
