Alcatraz Line up: 2023

After years of deafening silence we can finally feast our ears on the fiendish sound of Jim Mutilator and The Magus once more. Our youngest inmates may have to Google these two names but the greybeards among us know that Jim Mutilator is a co-founder of Greek black metal band Rotting Christ and was also the bassist of Varathron. The Magus is a Greek musician/producer who is one of the architects of the Hellenic black and death metal sound. His music is dark, diabolical and majestic; his lyrics are sinister and foreboding. Under the moniker Yoth Iria this veteran duo serves up a fresh version of the 90s Greek occult black metal. This is not an end-of-career project, as clearly illustrated by their firstborn ‘The Flame Whithers’ which, contrary to what the title suggests, is not a pilot light but a conflagration of passion and a vocal tour de force.
