Calling The Quill a retro band would be selling them short. Their classic hard rock is supplemented with modern metal and there’s even the occasional flirtation with grunge. They debuted in 1995 with a self-titled album that turned Sweden on its head with Sabbath, Purple and Zeppelin-inspired hard rock, including a Hammond organ.. Magnus Ekwall’s voice tows the line between Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell and Robert Plant and the musicians are just insanely talented. Bassist Roger Nilsson left in 2005, followed in 2008 by Ekwall. Nilsson rejoined in 2012 and Ekwall returned to the fold in 2016, reviving the original line-up just in time for ‘Born from Fire’ (2017). Infectious groove, a head-nodding factor that’s off the chart and a vocalist with a charismatic voice that would charm the devil into handing over the keys to hell. Not entirely convinced yet? Try 2002’s ‘Voodoo Caravan’, it’s a fan favourite. Just think: Soundgarden, Black Sabbath, Spiritual Beggars, Led Zep.
