With the addition of American death metal band Morbid Angel we welcome a true legend to the stage of Alcatraz this year.
Morbid Angel was founded by master guitarist Trey Azagthoth in 1983 and immediately gained attention with their impressive demos and fascination with occultism. Their phenomenal debut “Altars Of Madness" (1989) is still unsurpassed and considered ‘the bible’ for nearly every death metal band thereafter. Morbid Angel became wildly popular in the nineties thanks to their gut-wrenching performances and successful albums such as "Blessed Are The Sick" (1991), "Covenant" (1993) and "Domination" (1995). In 1996 frontman David Vincent left the band and was replaced by Steve Tucker on "Formulas Fatal To The Flesh" (1998) and the two subsequent albums. David Vincent returned for the "Illud Divinum Insanus” album (2011) and left again shortly after when critics and fans referred to that album as Morbid Angel’s St. Anger. Enter once again Steve Tucker, with him back on board, the shows have been fiercer and faster than ever. They are currently working on a new album due out in 2017, true death metal performed by the originator’s of this genre. Certainly not for the weak of heart! If you have never seen this band, now is the time!
